Planted

The exhibition "Planted" showcases the innovative transformation of natural plant fibers into textiles. This exploration began at Officinet in Copenhagen in January 2023 and then traveled to London for the London Design Festival 2023 at The Material Matters Fair, before being presented again at Heimtextile in Frankfurt, Germany in 2024.

"Planted" delves into the potential of natural fibers such as oranges, seaweed, pineapple, and hemp to be transformed into textiles without sacrificing their aesthetic appeal. The exhibition demonstrates that these unconventional materials can be spun into yarn, dyed with bio-dyes, and woven into intricate tapestries. These tapestries were created in the laboratory at TextielLab in the Netherlands, where various types of yarn including citrus yarn from Italian citrus peels, pineapple yarn from pineapple leaves, seaweed yarn from seaweed extract, and hemp yarn were developed.

The process involved using Jacquard weaving techniques to bring out the unique properties of each yarn. This includes manipulating structure, light reflection, color saturation, and intensity to create geometric abstractions that evoke natural landscapes. The result is a series of textiles that not only highlight the sustainable origins of their materials but also stand out for their visual and textural qualities.
