Uchiwa Chair

Designed in 2016 in relation to the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Japan. In 2017, the chair was exhibited at the Kyoto Institute of Technology in Kyoto, Japan, as part of the celebration.

Materials and techniques

The fabric is jacquard handwoven paper yarn in a double set of wefts construction to create gradation. The handwoven fabric is made by Tanja Kirst.

The wooden construction is made of laminated ash due to its flexible qualities and directional strength.
